Tip of the month

A paraglider hanging in the air above the Powys countryside

Abergavenny, Powys

Took a trip to the beautiful Welsh hills of Abergavenny for an afternoon of paragliding, like you do!

Person standing in thick jungle

Trebah Gardens, nr Falmouth, Cornwall

I used to think visiting gardens was something reserved for pensioners and my parents but then I went to Trebah, a 26 acre sub-tropical garden which slopes down to a private cove perfect for wild swimming.

A boy on a tree swing seeming to go over a firepit

nr Luckett, Cornwall

This is probably not as dangerous as it looks! We always have our tree swings and portable fire pit in our rucksacks so we can ‘set up camp’ for a bit if we find a good spot. This was a good place with big trees and great views near Luckett in East Cornwall. I have never grown out of the thrill of swinging high in the trees. A night-time swing when the sky is crammed with stars is one of the most magical experiences.

View past the edge of a house to the bay at Salcombe

Salcombe, Devon

A lovely walk in Devon, into Salcombe, stopping off at The Salcombe Deli to pick up some lunch (great sandwiches!) and getting the ferry over to East Portlemouth. Rest the day was just us on the beach at Mill Bay, playing bat and ball games and enjoying the sun.

Two people sitting in front of a hillside scene at sunrise, orange sun coming up

Glastonbury Tor, Somerset

I woke the boys up at 5:30am one morning and said ‘come on, lets go watch the sun rise’. It was magical! A special moment and memory we will never forget.

Three boys sitting on a clifftop bench above a curved bay and seascape

nr Newquay, Cornwall

Walked another section of the South West coast path. We've set ourselves the goal of walking the entire 630 miles and we are closing in on it! This is a beautiful section near Newquay - 9 miles of sparkly sea. Stunning. Boys always at their happiest when they are wild and free.

Two women kneeling in a garden with chopping boards and foraged plants

Southcombe, Devon

Ffyona Campbell walked round the world for 9 years, including 3 of those years in Africa with Ray Meares! Myself and 3 friends spent a day walking bare foot around the beautiful gardens of Southcombe Barn, foraging for all the edible things that were growing there. We dug for pig nuts too!

Two boys sitting on a picnic blanket in a bluebell wood

Prior Woods, nr Bristol

Me and the boys do ‘wild weekend lunches’ where we take a picnic in a backpack and go off exploring for good spots. This one was bluebell season at Prior Woods, just outside of Bristol

Sunset beach at perranuthnoe with headland and people walking at the edge of the surf

Perranuthnoe, Cornwall

This was just down the South West coastal path from Beare's Den campsite. There's a lovely little beach cafe that we went to several times and one evening we got fish and chips and sat on the rocks having dinner.

Man standing on beautiful coastline

Nash Point Lighthouse, South Wales

We embraced the elements and fresh sea breeze on a hike along the Wales Coast Path in the Vale of Glamorgan. Standing at Nash Point Lighthouse and staring out to sea felt invigorating and energising. A path that had eroded into the sea and an inquisitive herd of cows gave us plenty to talk about over dinner.

A boy flying on a tree swing

Tintern, Wye Valley

A 7 mile hike starting from Tintern Abbey in the Wye Valley…a beautiful walk with amazing views, taking in the old ruins of Angidy Valley and some awesome tree swings in Glyn Wood. Coffee and lunch in our rucksacks, boys wild and free… always the best Sundays.

A woman standing in a triumphant pose on Stanner Rock, Powys countryside below

Took a steep sweaty hill climb to the top of Stanner Rock in Powys, I felt on top of the world – the views were insane!

A woman on a bike with a reservoir visible in the middle distance behind a tall retaining wall

Elan Valley

The Elan Valley is a beautiful area definitely worth visiting for a day trip. It’s great for a lovely cycle ride or a ramble around the reservoir lakes. The area is wild and beautiful and the trails mainly flat so it’s an easy ride/walk. Bikes can be hired at the Elan Valley visitor centre if you haven’t brought your own. We spotted some rather rare birds with red tails while we were cycling past the lakes.

A woman in a misty forest

Madeira, Portugal

We got completely lost on Madeira when the GPS got angry at us. Ended up in this incredible, magic, dramatic and slightly morbid forest. Since then I have learned that getting lost is great, you see things you would never see otherwise. Our best guess is that this is a place called Cerrado E Cova.

Sunset on Portobello beach, Edinburgh, people silhuouetted on the shoreline

Portobello, Edinburgh

I lived in Edinburgh years ago but somehow never discovered the beach. Since moving back I'm here almost every day for some very cold water swimming and evening walks along the promenade. It's a relaxed part of town to stay in and you can still get to the centre in 20 minutes.
